We will be going to the school with the group of nurses for school health which include vaccination and also examination of the students including deworming medication for all students. Beside this, student with suspected malnutrition will be supplied with full cream milk. So as usual, get up the bus and move on to the destination.. =) the whole scene of these people walking toward the bus is just like a scene in The Walking Dead.. i am serious, TRUST ME!! =( i will get a picture of it and upload it next time!!
anyway, we went to the Klinik Kesihatan Kuala Nerang first and confirmed that we are following Sister Cha to the school for the school health program.. Our charismatic leader went down and confirmed while in the bus, you can see some waking up with a messy hair, shin wuei doing his hair, arivin talking to others (i think he didnt stop talking ever since he step into the bus..a big applause boss), our boss BOB continue sitting on the front chair like a boss, wanteng looking lost like usual, mickey and wee still in their dreamland, ali always look like he is going to kick some asses (opps, is this word legal?? ), adrian open his eyes for a second then hug his pillow and off to sleep again, mingzhi look like he is there for the first time, saieesh thinks he is the tour guide promoting the place, and for me, of course putting on my face powder and tie-ing up my hair.. being pretty is legit! =)
one minute... two minute.. *flies fly over* ... 10 minutes.... and oh, leader is back!! ^^
"let's go!!!"
WOW!! no more pregnant ladies (i INSIST..i am DEFINITELY NOT bored of pregnant ladies).. now let's face the little devil, little kids!! be aware..
so there we go, another 3km to the school...SMK DATO' SYED AHMAD... we have a great bus driver here (u will agree when u see how he make an U-turn..hats off) and thus reaching the place in 5 minutes?? upon reaching, we helped the sisters to set up the whole place.. the guys help arranging the tables and chairs, while girls arranged the stuff on the table..
the whole place was set up in half an hour... wait is it half an hour or 15 minutes or 45 minutes?? let's say it takes something around that.. happily we took our seat and job.. here is the distribution of job:
1. arivin, jivetha, shin wuei, muhammad ali - coordinator and arrangement of students
2. wan teng, mickey loh - vaccination
3. jolyn, saieesh, jeeva, sangeetha, thiba, niroshini, adrian, ming zhi, nicholas - examination of students
4. gagjalaxchumi - visual acuity and deworming
at sharp 9am, students were brought by the medical assistant to the hall.. they were brief by arivin, our boss of the day, on who we are, what will they went thru and the reason why they are at the hall... laughter filled the hall when arivin mentioned he is naturally good looking.. =D agree hands up, disagree hands down.. okay, we know the result.. and so to protect our boss, the result will be keep as secret forever..
back, after shortly brief by arivin and his coordinator geng, the student were asked to sit in rows and when names called, they had to walk to the table for examination.. there are 2 types of student - student for examination purposes only (where they had received their immunization) and students who are yet to received immunization.. so the 1st batch of student who came in have already received their shot and will be examined by thibashini, sangeetha, jeeva and ming zhi.. thiba and sangee will be examining the female while the jeeva and ming zhi will be examining the males... soon, they were joined by ali and arivin who had finished coordinating..
meanwhile, another batch of student came in.. they are the student who will be receiving their injection shot. 1st the students are divided into 2 lines - the males and the females. they were given a bottle of deworming medication and according to their name, they were called to test on their visual acuity. gagjalaxchumi helped in this section and together with adrian who helped in distributing the medication. shin wuei helped in coordinating the student. student with visual acuity problem are advised on eye care and also food which helped in eyesight. some student who had newly screened eyesight problem are advised on getting a new spectacles.
next for the boys only, they are asked for color blind test. myself (jolyn) and mickey helped in this segment. there are students with color blindness. these students were educated on color-blindness, the epidemiology of having this, how common it is (to prevent anxiety in student and also preventing stereotypes), and advised on driving and also choosing occupation next time (they couldnt be policemen and pilot) .. then students are examined before proceeding to injection segment.
on examination of students (by myself, mickey and adrian), basically we checked on BMI, anaemia, thyroid problem, heart problem, respiratory problem, musculoskeletal problem, central nervous system and gastrointestinal problem. we also checked on skin lesion and also infection - mainly scabies, lice and acute gastroenteritis. as for female, menstrual cycle is checked as well. there is student with anaemia, low BMI, scabies manifestation and also lice manifestation. advised on proper balanced food intake, importance of getting food on time, prevention on sedentary life and having medical attention as soon as possible were told to the students. if there is a need, referral letter to specialist or clinic is given to the student.
after a full examination, students were brought to immunization (tetanus toxoid given). here, wan teng helped in giving injection. beside getting injection, students were also screened for Thalasaemia. Blood is withdrawn for lab test. written consent is sought before blood is drawn.
the whole event went on till 11am. it is time for breakfast, not only for us, but also for the students. we took advantages of the time and round the school..
------------------- BREAKFAST TIME -------------------------------------
back!!
it does look like we had went back secondary school.. lining up for food, pick our food and pay and happily talking to friends.. how i miss my school..
now back, we had our breakfast in the canteen and of course, apart from making ourselves full from all the nutritious food, we look around...why is it important to peep on how the mak cik cook the food or how the pak cik wash the plates and utensils ??
it is because the hygiene of the canteen could prevent the incidence of acute gastroenteritis (okay, who am i fooling with this stupid question.. sorry!). we look around, looking on how the food is processed, cooked and served to the students. the surrounding condition whether if is clean or free from flies, with no blocked drains and sufficient clean water supply in the canteen. it seems like apart from the food being served open without any protection against the rebellious flies, others were satisfying. the foods do look nutritious and well cooked (ps : but im not really sure if is over-cooked especially for the vegetables). but they do have all balanced food and well, the price is affordable.
after inspecting the canteen and having our tummy full, we walk around the school. the school having enough facilities for the student starting from the spacious classroom to counseling room to a cooperative to a room for HIV and DRUGS ABUSE campaign. not forgotten the always loved canteen, a small mosque for praying and also a open study area. it is also well equipped with a adequate field, basketball field, computer lab and also library. the school is ready for teaching out a group of elites.
we walked around looking into a classroom. oh well, our luck, one classroom is empty, so this means PICTURE TIME!! =)
the classroom has a big blackboard on it, indicating that the school still using chalks to teach instead of marker pen. being conservative i guess or maybe not all school start switching from blackboard to whiteboard. anyway, the classroom is indeed clean with around 20 tables well arranged. the ventilation is good and they had 3 ceiling fans to keep them cool . there is a desk for the teacher. the whole classroom look conductive. and this makes me miss my school ..
the classrooms are great. happy with the condition we walked back to the hall to meet up with others. thinking that this school must have preserved the hygiene well, we walked by a isolated pond just next the boys canteen. oh-my-god!! the water looks like it going to breed some mosquito inside. the greenish water screaming for a nice cleanup and also the water retained in it, it does somehow deduct some marks from our evaluation. we met up with a teacher and told them the situation. this water could be a nice place for mosquitoes to breed and thus a cleanup is a must.
back in the hall, time show it is 11am. time to bid goodbye. we told sister cha that we had to leave.. orthopaedics class at 2pm, nobody wants to be late especially YOU CANT BE LATE FOR THE CLASS.. we thanks sister cha for their warm hospitality and also the school headmaster and sorry for the inconvenience that we caused. sister cha and the group had to continue with the immunization and examination of the student. as for us, the bus had come and there goes, our journey back to sungai petani.
that concludes our day for the school health program.. tired but then we are happy for the fruitful journey~ =) and again i would like to stress, I AM NOT BORED OF PREGNANT LADIES..
PICTURE TIME!! ^^ (sorry, a little mess up because i had difficulty time re-arranging them~)
vaccination.. i remember there is a boy running away from vaccination.. and ali had to catch him~ xD |

waiting for their turn on vaccination~ lub dub lub dub~ =) |
they look like enjoying the time.. =) |
this POND!! wait is it consider a pond??! anyway, YES, the only place that we are not satisfied with! |
